Celebrating Christmas in Banff’s Enchanting Beauty

As the snow begins to fall and the evening light fades earlier each day, why not try celebrating Christmas in Banff's enchanting beauty. Banff, being one of the most scenic Canadian towns, does not disappoint when delivering Christmas cheer. From wandering down Banff Avenue to ice skating on a lake, you will not be dispirited. Join us in the blog as we create a list of must do's in Banff over the season of joy and giving.

Relax in a Winter Wonderland

When visiting Banff, the first thing to do is find the perfect place to stay. If you are thinking of staying in town and want a cabin style lodging check out The Banff Log Cabin. Located in the town of Banff it boasts attractive cozy vibes. The perfect spot to soak in the festivities with a loved one. If you prefer to stay in a hotel, The Fairmont Banff Springs is known for its Christmas spirit. Known as Christmas at the Castle, the hotel really goes above and beyond when decorating.  From Mrs. Clause reading your children a bed time story, ginger bread house making or even the man in the red suit visiting before bedtime the staff at the Fairmont really make it an unforgettable visit.

Should your prefer to stay away from the hustle and bustle of town, there are multiple winter cabins just a short drive away.  Castle Mountain Chalets, Storm Mountain Lodge or Mt. Engadine Lodge all offer unique stays. Be sure to do your research and choose the place that is right for all your needs.

Ice Skate on a Frozen Lake

Bring your skates (or rent some) and get out on some wild ice. With most of the lakes around Banff freezing thick enough to skate on, its an opportunity that cannot be missed. The most popular place to go is Lake Minnewanka. The mountainous backdrop is the perfect setting to get a family photo. You can also skate closer to town through the Fenlands Outdoor Meadow Rink. A beautiful woodland ice path, that is great for all ages. Check out or blog Adventure Awaits in Banff National Park for more ice skating tips and locations.

Banff Christmas Market

Take an afternoon to venture through a quaint artesian market and pick up some local handmade gifts. The market is located just outside of the main town. The short walk to get there brings you along the Bow River which is a pleasing adventure by itself. The market has over 100 vendors and is open for 3 weekends over the last week of November through to the first week in December. It offers live music, outdoor fires, Santa's House and Reindeers and festive treats. Be sure to purchase you tickets in advance from the Banff Christmas Market webpage.

A Day on the Slopes

Some of Canada's best skiing is assessable from Banff town. There are 3 ski hills that boarder Banff. Mt. Norquay, Sunshine Ski Resort and Lake Louise. All three of the hills offer great snow, ski schools and rentals. It really all depends on what you are after from your ski day. Mt. Norquay offers night skiing. Lake Louise has long open runs and Sunshine Ski Resort offers medium length runs with more treed terrain. Our blog, 7 Months of Renowned Skiing, can guide you through your options with detailed explanations of each ski hill.

Christmas is the most magical time of the year.
